Is a Grand Slam Within Reach for Spieth?
After plenty of twists and turns during the final few holes, Jordan Spieth won his first U.S. Open title on Sunday in suburban Seattle, giving him two major golf titles in a row.
That puts him halfway home in his pursuit of a historic Grand Slam, which is something the Preston Hollow native and former Jesuit standout can achieve if he claims the British Open in July and the PGA Championship in August.
Spieth, 21, appears to be the best player in the world right now, based on his clutch performances this year at the Masters and this weekend at Chambers Bay, with its unique layout and rolling terrain.
On Sunday, he shot a round of 1-under par 69, taking the title by one stroke when Dustin Johnson missed two putts on the final hole. But that doesn’t tell the whole story, as Spieth had a three-shot lead down the stretch before faltering, then recovering with a key birdie on 18.
Although his finish at this year’s Byron Nelson Championship on home soil left something to be desired, Spieth still has proven himself a great source of pride and a role model for the Preston Hollow community. And his latest triumph just adds another chapter to that story.
