New Friends New Life Launches Drive
New Friends New Life has announced the launch of a Circle of Friends membership drive. What’s that, you ask? It’s a group that supports the nonprofit’s mission of empowering women and teens who have been trapped in sex trafficking. Specifically, the Circle of Friends group assists through volunteerism, community awareness, and fundraising.
“With the help of our Circle of Friends volunteers and supporters, New Friends New Life is able to make a major impact on the women and teens who desire to leave the slavery of trafficking and start the path to a more promising future,” said New Friends New Life executive director Katie Pedigo.
It’s estimated that 400 trafficked teens are on the streets in Dallas each night — that figure doesn’t even take adult women into account. Texas as a whole ranks second in the country for “most human trafficking.”
“So many of us exist in our modern, 21st-century bubble and only imagine human trafficking as a problem of ancient history,” said Christa Sanford, president of the New Friends New Life Circle of Friends board. “New Friends New Life bravely acknowledges the real, sexual exploitation of women and girls in our very own city.”
