Highland Park Loses DPS Chief
We are saddened to report that Highland Park Department of Public Safety chief Chris Vinson died yesterday following complications from a heart surgery performed Friday. WFAA has the full story.
Vinson, a well-known member of the community, had been chief since February 2008. The FBI National Academy graduate had served in the department altogether since 1983.
“When you have a department with officers who stay for a long period of time, you really get to know each other,” Sergeant Lance Koppa said. “That’s your family.”
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
- Viewing: Thursday, June 4 from 6-9 p.m. at Crossroads Christian Church, 6450 South State Highway 360, Grand Prairie, TX 76015
- Funeral: Friday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Christian Church, with a graveside ceremony to follow at Shiloh Cumberland Cemetery
They anticipate sufficient parking at the funeral, but limited at the graveside. HP has dedicated a page on its website to any and all updates.
“All of us are in shock, and have no words to truly express our sadness,” the site reads. “Life is precious. We will miss our chief.”
An account has been set up to collect contributions to the Vinson family to offset the cost of the funeral and medical expenses.
