Knost Earns Top 10 Finish at Byron Nelson
IRVING – Colt Knost might have been disappointed with his finish at the Byron Nelson Championship on Sunday, but he had plenty of reasons to smile during the weekend.
In front of a healthy gallery of supporters, Knost, a University Park resident and former SMU standout, tied for 10th place at his hometown PGA Tour event for his second consecutive top-10 finish.
He carded a final-round 68 to finish at 10-under par for the tournament, tying him with five other players. Unfortunately for Knost, his only bogey of the final round came on 18, and he didn’t speak to the media afterward.
It was Knost’s third bogey on the closing hole in four rounds, and his eighth overall in the tournament, including three straight to open the third round on Saturday. Still, he tallied 18 birdies, including six each in the second and third rounds.
Sunday’s final round at the TPC Four Seasons in Las Colinas marked the best finish for Knost in nine tries at the Byron Nelson. He has been six times. He earned a six-figure paycheck for the second straight weekend after also tying for 10th at Colonial in Fort Worth. The finishes match his best on tour since 2012, when he twice finished third.
Knost, 29, who graduated from SMU in 2007, is enjoying his best season as a touring pro after bouncing back and forth between the PGA Tour and the Web.com Tour during the past several years.
Also this weekend, former Highland Park standout Cody Gribble made the initial cut after the second round on Friday, but was one of a handful of players eliminated prior to the final round. Gribble, 24, finished in a tie for 78th place and shot his best round on Friday with a 66.
