Looney, Scots Sweep Past Harker Heights
Highland Park is through to the third round of the playoffs. It’s next opponent? That’s another matter.
Layne Looney made his first postseason start of the year and threw a two-hit shutout as the Scots eliminated Harker Heights with a 3-0 road win on Friday, completing a sweep of a Class 6A Region II area round series.
Looney struck out 15 and also posted two hits for HP, which has allowed just three runs combined in its four playoff victories. The Scots (26-5) extended their winning streak to 15 games overall, while the Knights (18-12) finished their best season in program history.
HP won the first game in the series 6-2 on Thursday at Scotland Yard, as Jon Skidmore provided the heroics with a second-inning grand slam.
The Scots will play either Jesuit or Rowlett in the regional quarterfinals next week. That series is tied 1-1, with each team winning by identical 1-0 scores — the Rangers on Thursday and the Eagles on Friday. The third and deciding game will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Plano John Paul II.
