Highland Park didn’t take long to reclaim its place atop the world of high school lacrosse in Texas.

Using the depth and experience that their roster displayed all season, the Scots rolled past The Woodlands 10-4 on Sunday in Round Rock to claim their sixth championship in the Texas High School Lacrosse League.

The championship is the first for HP since 2012, ending a streak that matched the longest in program history without a state title.

The Scots (14-3) broke open a 1-1 tie with three quick goals late in the first half. Then HP added five goals in the third quarter to break the game open, eventually extending the advantage to 10-2 early in the fourth.

Kevin Ken, who was named tournament MVP, scored twice for HP along with Jack Kozmetsky. Other goals in the balanced effort came from Hoyt Matise, Owen Seebold, Stephen Briggs, Hugo Reisenbichler, Chris Buell, and Jackson Durham.

In the semifinals on Saturday, the Scots rallied from an early deficit to cruise past Allen 15-6. HP scored six unanswered goals in the final quarter, including three in a span of 30 seconds, to pull away. Seebold tallied five goals in that game.

The Woodlands knocked off defending champion ESD in the other semifinal. The Scots had already beaten all three of the other state tournament teams during the regular season.

HP also won the championship in the Division II bracket with a 15-10 win over Colleyville on Sunday. It’s the third time that the HP program has won both titles in the same year.
