Prediction: Silver Will Speak at SMU
Anyone who can make a living writing about sports and statistics certainly has my admiration. And there aren’t many who can do it better than Nate Silver, founder of the FiveThirtyEight.com website that is now owned by ESPN.
Silver will speak on Tuesday night at SMU as part of the school’s renowned Tate Lecture Series. Although the event is sold out, a question-and-answer forum that afternoon at the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Ballroom is open to area high school students, SMU students, faculty, and staff.
Silver is a pioneer in the evolving world of “data journalism,” having made correct predictions about presidential races in 2008 and 2012, as well as forecasts about player performance in baseball and other sports based on statistical analysis.
