Lady Scots Head to Regional Showdown
While the territory is familiar, the setting is a little different for Highland Park at the regional tournament this weekend.
The Lady Scots have qualified for the Region II semifinals for the fourth straight year, but the first time in Class 6A. That means they’re in Round Rock today for a matchup against Austin Westlake.
The winner will face either Sachse or Pflugerville Hendrickson on Saturday in the regional final, for which the stakes include a berth in the state tournament next weekend in nearby Georgetown.
The Chaparrals (20-1-1) edged Round Rock Cedar Ridge 2-1 on Tuesday and haven’t lost a game since January, so they should provide the biggest challenge thus far in a playoff campaign that’s gone perfectly for HP.
The unbeaten Lady Scots (21-0-2) outscored Skyline, Rockwall, and North Mesquite by a combined 13-0 in their three postseason contests and haven’t been seriously tested in any of them. Kate Summers scored twice in a 4-0 win over Rockwall on April 3, and Savanna Jones tallied a pair of goals during a 5-0 shutout of North Mesquite on Tuesday. Freshman goalkeeper Ginny Hoy has made every save.
This weekend will mark the second trip to Round Rock for the Lady Scots this season. They went 2-0-1 during a January tournament there.
