Lady Scots Unbeaten Entering 10-6A Play
After finishing its nondistrict schedule unscathed, Highland Park has plenty of momentum for its inaugural venture into Class 6A.
The Lady Scots earned a 1-0 shutout against Ursuline on Thursday in a matchup of two teams with state-title aspirations. HP won a 4A state crown as recently as 2012 and has plenty of returnees on its roster, and the Bears are seeking their 25th consecutive TAPPS title this winter.
Rachel Wasserman scored the game’s only goal as the Lady Scots (5-0-2) avenged a 1-0 loss to the Bears in last year’s nondistrict finale. Thursday’s game marked the first loss for Ursuline at its new on-campus field, which opened in December.
The Lady Scots earned two wins and a tie at each of their two tournaments. They have allowed just three goals in seven games this season, and haven’t allowed more than one goal in any of their games. By contrast, Savanna Jones has already scored five times this season for HP.
The Lady Scots will host North Mesquite in their District 10-6A opener on Tuesday at Highlander Stadium.
On the boys side, HP (3-3-1) will travel to face North Mesquite in its 10-6A debut on Tuesday at Berry Middle School.
