Bulldogs Bring Bowl Practice to HPHS
Highland Park High School might be closed for the holidays, but its football facilities have been busy thanks to Louisiana Tech University, which is using Highlander Stadium and the HPISD indoor facility for its practices this week.
The Bulldogs (8-5) will face Illinois (6-6) in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Friday at the Cotton Bowl.
Louisiana Tech practiced outdoors on Monday and inside on Tuesday. The team is scheduled to work out again at HPHS on Wednesday.
“They’ve been focused and dialed in ever since we came to the bowl site,” Bulldogs coach Skip Holtz said following Tuesday’s practice in shorts and helmets, but no pads. “Their focus, attention to detail, excitement, energy, and the way they’re out here working has really been a positive the past two days.”
That energy was evident during a lift session in the closing minutes of practice when the lights briefly flickered off in the indoor facility, only to induce excited battle-like yells from several members of the squad.
Of course, it’s not the first time HPHS has been the training site of choice for a prominent team visiting the area. The Green Bay Packers used the indoor facility prior to Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
