Hockadaisy Honored For Girl Scout Project
Hockaday senior Meredith Burke is one of two Girl Scouts who will be honored on Wednesday at the Women of Distinction Luncheon at the Hilton Anatole.
Burke, along with Cameron Wicks of Cedar Hill, were selected by the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas for their community service and leadership skills.
Burke joined Girl Scouts as a Brownie and has since earned her Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards. She spearheaded a two-year project to restore the near-extinct Blackland Prairie ecosystem by removing invasive grass and replanting grasses and wildflowers at the Connemara Conservancy. She received a grant from Disney for her efforts, was awarded the President’s Environmental Youth Certificate, and was the first youth speaker at the Texas State House Wreaths Across America ceremony in 2013.
