This fall, the Highland Park chapter of the Young Men’s Service League gave its “ultimate gift” to Vogel Alcove. The mother-son organization dedicated two weekends to help, collecting winter clothes and putting on a fall festival for the families.

The festival held on Nov. 1 included face painting, arts and crafts, pumpkin decorating, playground activities, snacks, and drinks. Co-chairs Lee Ann Renner and Julie Borus organized the event. At the festival, the young men set up the clothing store, which they had previously stocked. Many of the children were able to take home coats and other winter items.

Vogel Alcove provides free child development services to homeless children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. The early childhood education program’s primary focus is free childcare and case management for children and their families who have been referred by other shelters and programs.
