Parish Triumphs, But Jesuit and Hillcrest Fall
Things got a little scary in the fourth quarter for Parish Episcopal on Friday, but the Panthers held off a furious Pantego Christian rally and remained on target in its chase of a TAPPS district title.
The 49-35 victory was Parish’s first on the new blue turf installed on its home field this summer, and it didn’t come without some late drama.
Parish led 41-14 after consecutive third-quarter touchdowns by Dominic Williams before Pantego bounced back with three straight scores to trim the margin to six points. It took a late Jeremy Winston touchdown to seal the deal for Parish (4-1, 2-0).
Williams was dominant again for Parish. The sophomore rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns, tallied 49 receiving yards and a score, returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and got a pair of two-point conversions.
But he was far from the only threat for a Parish offense that has proven difficult to stop this season. Tom Stewart completed 14 of 18 passes with three touchdowns, two of which went to Dakota Michaels, and Winston finished with 101 yards on the ground.
Pantego (3-2, 1-1) rolled up 518 total yards in the losing effort. Hill Alexander rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns, and also tossed two scoring passes.
In other key games this week:
Skyline 56, Jesuit 30
The Rangers (3-2, 1-1) couldn’t contain the powerful Skyline offense in a showdown between two likely 9-6A playoff teams. Jesuit’s Bo Schneider passed for 334 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Garrett Amy. But the Raiders (5-0, 2-0) had too many big plays from Daleon Ward, who scored four times.
Carrollton Creekview 19, Hillcrest 15
A 56-yard touchdown pass from Josh Drucker to Aquilian Banks in the final minutes allowed the Mustangs (3-2, 2-0) to hand the Panthers (4-1, 1-1) their first loss of the season. Arico Evans rushed for 166 yards for Hillcrest and threw a touchdown pass to Tim Ismail, while Luis Jaramillo kicked three field goals.
St. Mark’s 38, Arlington Oakridge 24
The Lions (3-3, 2-2) spotted Oakridge 14 early points before Justin Jones kicked into gear with 193 rushing yards and four touchdowns to key the St. Mark’s rally. The Owls (3-3, 1-3) kept it close before Matthew Placide hit Case Brabham on a short touchdown pass, then Jones scored on a long run in the final minute.
ESD 41, Houston St. John’s 21
After their bus broke down on the way to Houston, Nakeie Montgomery tallied 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns to help the Eagles (6-0, 2-0) remain unbeaten in SPC divisional play. Jack Johnson added two scores to help ESD establish a 28-0 lead before a mild second-half rally by the Mavericks (1-5, 0-2).
W.T. White 27, Carrollton R.L. Turner 25
Jackson Fults had two touchdown passes and also ran for 141 yards and a score as the Longhorns (3-2, 1-1) held off the Lions (3-2, 0-2). Dejuan Pullen finished with 109 receiving yards, including a 58-yard score in the fourth quarter. Turner scored three times in the fourth quarter, including twice on Bryce Strickland runs.
