Teachers Raise Funds for AP Classes Online
A couple of Hillcrest High School teachers have taken it upon themselves to raise funds for AP classes. Teachers Gilbert Vansoi and Cassie Finley placed a project request on DonorsChoose.org and raised $1,425.
The money will be spent to provide response clickers for use on quizzes that will give quick feedback to both the students and teachers. It will also be used to purchase a voice amplifier. Teachers give tutoring sessions in large spaces that can accommodate upward of 120 students. This will enable them to hear over the noisy A/C units.
At Hillcrest, the AP government and AP macroeconomics classes are combined into a single requirement. Vansoi and Finley hope to improve students’ performance on AP exams by at least 15 percent this year.
