Police Report: September 15 to September 21
SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: A Camry in a Pear Tree
At 10:21 p.m. on Sept. 17, the driver of a black 2014 Toyota Camry rear-ended a white 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the intersection of Knox Avenue and Abbott Avenue. After the collision, the Camry jumped the curb and struck a Bradford pear tree, snapping it in two pieces as the Camry came to rest on top of the tree. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and no injuries were reported.
HIGHLAND PARK
15 MONDAY
Between 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 6 a.m. on Sept. 15, a thief stole a canvas bag containing a portable DVD player and various children’s DVDs from an unlocked black 2002 Lexus SUV in the3600 block of Potomac Avenue. A homeowner two blocks away found the bag discarded on her property later that morning.
Between 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 6 a.m. on Sept. 15, a thief stole a Volvo station wagon from a driveway in the 3900 block of Potomac Avenue. The key was stolen along with a case of Winchester shotgun shells from an unlocked black Mercedes SUV parked next to it. The perpetrator also rummaged through an unlocked blue Ford Explorer. Police later found the Volvo backed into a detached garage in the 2600 block of Milton Avenue in University Park, where a silver 2011 Jeep Wrangler, valued at $20,000, had been stolen along with a $1,600 set of Taylor Made golf clubs, a $400 pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, and a $200 Husky compressor.
Between 9 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 10 a.m. on Sept. 15, a vandal rummaged through a white Volkswagen Jetta in the 3800 block of Potomac Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry, and nothing was reported stolen.
19 FRIDAY
At 2:56 a.m., Phillip Stephen Haynes, 25, of Pilot Point was arrested in the 4400 block of Belclaire Avenue on charges of assault and public intoxication.
21 SUNDAY
At 1:30 a.m., Miguel Angel Oregon, 37, of Dallas was arrested in the 3500 block of Crescent Avenue on a public intoxication charge.
UNIVERSITY PARK
15 MONDAY
Between 9 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 6 a.m. on Sept. 15, a thief stole $300 worth of tools and a $200 iPod Nano from an unlocked black 2009 GMC Yukon in the 3000 block of Milton Avenue.
Between 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 and noon on Sept. 15, a burglar broke into a black 2007 BMW X3 in the 3200 block of Milton Avenueand stole $1,800 worth of shoes and boots, a $745 pair of Tom Ford sunglasses, a $600 stroller, a $500 car seat, a $400 BCBG jacket, $40 worth of cosmetics, $20 worth of auto accessories, and a $15 Target tote bag.
16 TUESDAY
At 11:11 a.m., a resident of the 3300 block of Villanova Drivereported the theft of the third-row seat, valued at $3,500, from a GMC Yukon between Sept. 12 and Sept. 13.
At 2:30 p.m., Cecilia Lynn Cameron, 45, was arrested in the 4000 block of Purdue Street on a theft charge.
At 5:50 p.m., a shoplifter stole a $27 SMU shirt from the CVS store at Park Cities Plaza. James Lazarus Morris, 33, was arrested on charges of theft and public intoxication.
19 FRIDAY
At 12:20 a.m., David Pena, 24, of Denton was arrested in the 3800 block of University Boulevard on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Between 10:38 and 10:47 a.m., a masked thief stole $7,700 worth of Apple computer equipment, including two MacBook Pro laptops, from a house in the 3900 block of Wentwood Drive.
At 10:20 p.m., Kevin Marc Coughlin, 45, of Farmers Branch was arrested in the 7000 block of Hunters Glen Road on charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.
20 SATURDAY
At 12:01 a.m., Daniel Sullivan, 25, of Briarcliff, N.Y., was arrested in the 3400 block of Granada Avenue on a public intoxication charge.
21 SUNDAY
Between 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 3 p.m. on Sept. 21, a thief stole $2,179 worth of hunting equipment from a black 1999 Ford F-150 in the 3600 block of Bryn Mawr Drive.
At 3:40 p.m., a shoplifter stole two bottles of generic cold medication, valued at $13, from the CVS store at Park Cities Plaza. Jacoby Johnson, 27, of Dallas was arrested on charges of theft and criminal trespass.
