University Park has named its annual “Citizen of the Year,” but this time, it may not be what you expect … this year’s honorees — yes, plural — are none other than members of the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Commission. Since 2008, the group have logged hours on all sorts of civic projects such as the Snider Plaza tree lighting, the Caruth Park fishing derby, the ‘Fight the Bite’ campaign, and many other jobs.

“It really speaks to the nature of volunteerism,” city spokesman Steve Mace said.

All commission members are University Park residents and selected based on spring applications. They will accept their award at a ceremony in Goar Park after riding in the Fourth of July Parade.

Members not pictured include: Helena Burns, Morgan Cody, Grace Coleman, Katherine Cullins, Erin Egan, Lauren Hansford, Margaret Hamm, Kathleen Kilpatrick, Conner Rambin and Sam Stollenwerk.
