Local Students Earn National Merit Scholarships
Four Preston Hollow students were announced today as winners of the latest round of college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.
Two winners came from the Talented and Gifted Magnet School at Townview. Shane Appell (University of Oklahoma) lists computer programming as his probable career field, while John Patillo (UT-Dallas) plans to study applied mathematics.
Cistercian graduate Samuel Tomaso (Texas A&M) intends to pursue a career in civil engineering, and Greenhill’s Benjamin Weinberg (Northwestern University) looks to study public policy.
The scholarships are for between $500 and $2,000. A final announcement of winners in July will bring the scholarship total nationwide to more than $35 million among 190 colleges and universities.
