Young Returns to Texas With Mariners
If you hustle out to Globe Life Park in Arlington this afternoon, you can see former Highland Park High School standout Chris Young return to town as a member of the Seattle Mariners. He is scheduled to start against the Rangers in the finale of a two-game series beginning at 1 p.m.
Young missed much of the past two seasons with injury woes, but has been a bright spot this season for the Mariners, who signed him to bolster their depleted pitching staff shortly before the season began. The 6-foot-10 right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.22 earned-run average in seven starts.
The 34-year-old Young also has pitched in the majors for the Rangers, Padres, and Mets. He was in the Washington Nationals organization last season during his comeback from a shoulder injury. Young pitched for the Scots from 1996 to 1998, followed by two seasons at Princeton University.
