Howeth Leaves Scots For DeSoto

Highland Park defensive coordinator Mark Howeth has left the school to become the defensive coordinator at DeSoto, the biggest component in an offseason shakeup of the Scots’ football staff.

Besides the departure of Howeth, John Brinkley will become the offensive coordinator at Saginaw Chisholm Trail, Jim Randall has accepted the offensive coordinator post at Argyle Liberty Christian, and Charles Wheeler is set to become the defensive coordinator at Grapevine.

“I am happy that these coaches could reach their carer goals of being coordinators,” said HP head coach Randy Allen. “Our coaches are in demand because they are good coaches and other schools want coaches from Highland Park.”

Don Woods, who has been the defensive line coach for the Scots, will replace Howeth as the defensive coordinator. HP will hold its annual Blue-Gold spring game on May 20 at Highlander Stadium.

Strange. Everyone assumed Howeth would assume the reigns when Allen retired. Given than every defensive coach left, looks like there may be more to the story here. Pity that 2014 defense. Woods can’t hold a candle to Howeth.
