Legendary W.T. White Baseball Coach to Retire

Legendary W.T. White baseball coach David Shepherd, 71, said he’s retiring from coaching a program he’s been in charge of since 1980.
Under Shepherd, the Longhorns just finished their 32nd consecutive state playoff appearance. He’s had hundreds of players receive college scholarships over the years and coached first-round draft picks like Calvin Murray (1989) and current Detroit Tigers catcher Bryan Holaday.
“It’s time,” Shepherd said. “I have been blessed with the players and community. I will have been in this community for 50 years next year. Not many people can say that.”
Shepherd will teach one more year at White in Preston Hollow. Shepherd’s team was eliminated from the playoffs last week and he told his current players Friday.
