Gros Caps Dramatic Rally For Scots in Game 3
Three times previously, Highland Park had faced Frisco Wakeland in the Class 4A Region II baseball playoffs. All three times, the Wolverines won the series in a close third game.
But on Saturday, the Scots turned the tables with a dramatic comeback at Scotland Yard, capped by a Brandt Gros double in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave HP a 5-4 win and eliminated its playoff nemesis.
The Wolverines held a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning before the Scots rallied with three runs against Wakeland ace Cameron Yates to tie the score. Grant Howell picked up the win with two shutout innings for HP in relief of left-hander Billy Corbellini, who tossed six strong innings in his first start in almost two months.
It was the second win in less than 24 hours for the Scots after Wakeland took the first game of the series 5-0 on Thursday.
Now the Scots turn their attention to an area-round matchup against District 11-4A champion Adamson, which is one of the former coaching stops of HP head coach Travis Yoder. The first game of the best-of-three series is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Scotland Yard. The second game will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Reverchon Park, with a third game to follow if necessary.
