The final season at the Class 4A level was a memorable one for the Highland Park tennis team.

The Scots again proved their dominance on Tuesday by winning championships in four of five brackets at the UIL state tournament in Austin. That follows up a state title during the team season in the fall.

The champions included Chandler Carter (girls singles), Connor LaFavre and Hunter Holman (boys doubles), Margo Taylor and Elizabeth Porter (girls doubles), and Mac McCullough and Elizabeth Tedford (mixed doubles).

In girls singles, Carter rallied past Domonique Garley of Saginaw, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5. Porter swept her first two matches in straight sets.

The boys doubles bracket was a breeze for LaFavre and Holman, who won all three of their matches in two sets. That included a victory over John Jacob and Josh Miner of Austin Vandegrift in the championship match, 6-4. 6-2.

Taylor and Porter survived a three-set match in the semifinals before sweeping the tandem of Solene Crawley and Marie Lutz of San Antonio Alamo Heights in the final, 6-4, 6-0.

Likewise, a three-set semifinal match didn’t derail McCullough and Tedford, who rolled to a championship win over Braden May and Annie Tarwater of Texarkana, 6-0, 6-4.

HP repeated its 2013 championships in all four divisions, although none of the doubles pairings were the same as those that triumphed a year ago. The Scots, of course, will move to the new 6A classification beginning this fall.
