History Barely Eludes Spieth at Masters
If this weekend was any indication, Jordan Spieth will have plenty more opportunities to don the famed Green Jacket.
Until then, the former Jesuit standout will have to settle for a runner-up finish in his first Masters. In his quest to become the youngest Masters champion, Spieth, 20, shot an even-par round of 72 on Sunday to finish in a tie for second place, three shots behind champion Bubba Watson.
Spieth and Watson were tied entering Sunday’s final round, with the Preston Hollow native holding a two-shot lead after a birdie on the fourth hole. But shaky putting was costly for Spieth down the stretch as Watson took command to win his second Masters in three years.
Still, Spieth cemented his place as one of the sport’s rising stars, and a major title is likely not far behind.
