Serving For Hope Cottage

On April 12, the Hope Cottage Leadership Council is hosting a sand volleyball tournament at Sandbar Cantina & Grill from 2 – 5 p.m. to benefit the council’s namesake Hope Cottage, the oldest nonprofit, non faith based adoption agency in Dallas.

When I was in sixth grade at McCulloch Intermediate School they had a series of sports camps to ostensibly help us find out which sport we wanted to play when we moved up to the middle school. I’m not the most athletic person, but I loved playing soccer, basketball, tennis, and was even competitive cheerleader in elementary school.

So when I signed up for volleyball camp, I thought, “I’m sure I can do this.” I was wrong. If memory serves, I only went to two days of the camp before I quit, and I’m not a quitter. The failure so scarred me that when we had volleyball tournaments at summer camp, I did everything I could to avoid having to play.

As a member of the HCLC, whose leaders include fellow Highland Park High School Class of 2008 grads, I felt obliged to gather my courage and sign up to play. I’m as surprised as all my friends are that I’ve signed up. But, I assure you the cause is worth the likely face-plants.

We’ve got plenty of prizes lined up and great raffle items, so be a champion for Hope Cottage and sign up today.
