Morath’s Opponent Drops Out of DISD Race

The deadline to submit a candidacy for the DISD Board of Trustees passed at 5 p.m. on Friday. In advance of that deadline, I interviewed Sabrina Martinez Harrison, a former teacher and homemaker who was challenging Mike Morath in District 2, which includes the south and east portions of Preston Hollow, as well as Bluffview, Devonshire, and Greenway Parks.

I haven’t had a chance to transcribe that interview, and now I have no reason to. Harrison — whose husband, Field, owns the Mint Dentistry chain — emailed me this morning to say she’s dropping out of the race.

“I will be withdrawing from the election due to unforeseen travel and business obligations,” she said. “I will definitely revisit the opportunity to serve Dallas schools in three years and hope to serve our community then.”

Meanwhile, did you see the Morning News‘ story over the weekend that says Morath is linked to an effort to oust the entire Board of Trustees?
