Former Mavs Coach Teaching Off-Court Lessons
Former Dallas Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson will speak to students during an assembly at Thomas Jefferson High School at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
His visit is part of a nationwide program known as “Just Say YES,” which is an acronym for Youth Empowered to Succeed.
A press release notes that the mission of Johnson, who lives in the Dallas area and is an NBA analyst on ESPN, “is to inspire and motivate middle school and high school students to avoid the pitfalls of poor choices, overcome life’s obstacles, work and study hard, respect teachers and others, and stay in school.”
