Highland Park High School freshman Vaughn Miller Jr. and Highland Park Middle School student Vance Miller III are two thirds of the Prestonwood Polo and Country Club team that successfully defended its U.S. Polo Association Central Region championship in suburban Houston last weekend. (Their other teammate is Ronnie Puente, a sophomore at Little Elm High School.) The trio is coached by the Millers’ dad, Highland Park resident Vaughn Miller Sr., who also coaches the women’s polo team at TCU.

The regional tournament included teams from Detroit, Houston, and Culver, Ind. The Prestonwood squad squashed the Houston Polo Club 16-7 in the semifinals before edging Culver Military Academy 13-10 in the championship.

The Millers and Puente will vie for the national championship next month at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif. Prestonwood lost to the Toronto Polo Club 13-11 at the same event last year.
