District 108 Hopefuls Report New Numbers
Political candidates had to file campaign-finance reports yesterday covering activity from Jan. 24 through Feb. 22. These latest reports showed once again that Chart Westcott is on a different financial plane from the other two Republicans seeking to represent Texas House District 108.
Candidate |
Contributions |
Expenditures |
Cash on hand |
Court Alley |
$12,515.00 |
$28,983.31 |
$45,024.03 |
Morgan Meyer |
$70,851.00 |
$83,990.45 |
$173,061.00 |
Chart Westcott |
$174,385.16 |
$537,911.44 |
$194,782.59 |
Alley’s biggest contribution was $2,500 from Elloine Clark. Meyer’s biggest contribution was $5,000 from Louis Beecherl.
Westcott reported $100,000 worth of in-kind contributions from country singer Pat Green, who put on a Jan. 30 show for the candidate at his Uptown restaurant, The Rustic. (But Westcott also reported paying Green $5,400 for band expenses and sending $37,404.20 to Encore Live, which staged the event.) He also reported $10,424.96 worth of in-kind contributions from his family’s investment firm, Westcott LLC.
But his biggest cash contribution — $10,000 — came from someone who’ll be familiar to any Dallas resident who’s ever killed time watching daytime TV.
Looks like Daddy Westcott may need to chip in some more cash if he’s going to be successful in buying this seat for his prodigal son. Apparently the internal polls aren’t looking so hot for Chart at the moment…
Any information on Leigh Bailey?
I’ve been ignoring Leigh, just because she’s not in a competitive situation until one of the Republicans emerges from the primary. And we’ll have plenty of time to cover her before the general election in November. But I promise to devote a few minutes to looking over her finances soon.
Too bad the Politburo, err, I mean Community League doesn’t chose the District 108 Representative, then Daddy’s money would really matter.
Kegger at Charts after the election!
Looks like the Westcott family has chipped in about $550K since expenses far outpace the contributions and cash on hand. Meanwhile, he has spent 6-7x more than Morgan.
I certainly have to give Chart credit for spending the family money. Everyday I get one of his flyers in the mail on some innane subject that doesn’t affect my vote one iota (puppy protection, oh please!). That probationary law license explanation is certainly problematic, and, if you can’t come up with a better statement on that one, voters are pretty clear on the fact you won’t be very truthful going forward. Meyer may have been busted, but at least he fessed up to it. I can ignore a youthful indiscretion, but a phony and weak excuse doesn’t get you anywhere with voters. Until he ponies up on that one, all the money and advertising in the family coffers won’t help.
Article is misleading. This is the most recent report only. If you combine all the filings Chart raised over a million in the past year, Court over 100k and Morgan splits the difference.
