Lady Scots Hope to Shine on Diamond
Highland Park will open its 20th anniversary softball season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when the Lady Scots travel to Rockwall-Heath.
HP is seeking to reverse a recent trend of losing seasons that seemed to improve last year, when the Lady Scots finished with a 9-15-1 overall record and a 4-9 mark in District 10-4A.
The Lady Scots should benefit from the return of pitcher Katie Bell, who had a promising freshman season last year. The top returning hitters include Virginia Smith, Emily Vandemeer, Grace Shike, and Ginna Klein.
The home opener for HP is slated for Feb. 18 against Ferris — which will include a ceremony to commemorate the new lights on the HPHS field — with the Lady Scots Varsity Tournament to follow on Feb. 20-22.
The nondistrict slate also includes a game at Carrollton R.L. Turner on Feb. 24, followed by a trip to the Fort Bend Christian tournament near Houston beginning Feb. 27. District play starts on March 4 against Terrell.
The season opener has been postponed until Wednesday and will now be played at HP. JV at 5 and Varsity at 6:30.
