Altius Quartet Coaches Highlander Strings
The Highlander Strings orchestra hosted a two-day chamber-music festival at Highland Park High School this week.
The Altius Quartet, an ensemble-in-residence at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts, performed works by Haydn, Beethoven, Shostakovich, and Phillip Glass. The members of the quartet hold performance degrees from SMU, Colorado, and Indiana.
The quartet’s members then coached the orchestra students on ensembles in preparation for the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday. The Highlander Strings performed their ensembles for family and friends on Tuesday in a “coffee house recital” at the high school.
The Altius Quartet will hold its spring performance on Feb. 15 in Caruth Auditorium on the SMU campus.
