A disappointing start led to a triumphant finish for the Highland Park girls soccer team at the season-opening Highland Park Classic tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Scots (3-1) opened the event with a 2-0 loss to Cedar Park on Thursday, in a rematch of a Class 4A state semifinal from last spring. HP won that matchup to advance to the state title game.

After Thursday’s loss, the Lady Scots rolled off three straight victories to claim the championship in the round-robin tournament. Over the next two days, HP defeated Lake Travis 4-0, ESD 3-0, and Forney 2-1.

Kate Summers paced the Lady Scots with four goals so far this season, while Emily O’Neal and Natalie Dargene had two goals apiece. Other scorers included Sara Summers, Caroline Gould, Megan Uhr, Lauren Echols, and Hope Hyde.

HP will return to action on Thursday when it opens the Round Rock ISD tournament. The Lady Scots will face Round Rock at 4 p.m. Thursday, Round Rock Westwood at 4 p.m. Friday, and Round Rock Cedar Ridge at 11 a.m. Saturday.
