Cecilia Nipp, director of the Global Relationships and Cultural Exchange at Ursuline Academy, has been named the 2014 International Educator of the Year by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. She will be honored during a March 25 luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Dallas, where the featured speaker will be CNN’s Fareed Zakaria.

The International Educator of the Year is chosen from among nominees from public, private, and charter schools in North Texas. Council board member Jorge Baldor, one of the sponsors of the luncheon, said honoring an international educator demonstrates that the council’s program and the dedicated educators are “bringing a global impact directly to students often in schools and school districts with reduced funding and emphasis of international studies.”

Zakaria’s topic, “Globalization: A New World,” reflects the mission of the council’s highly regarded International Education Program: helping students and teachers reach beyond the classroom and the campus to learn about the world, understand global issues, and benefit from international opportunities. Nipp serves on the Council’s International Education Program Advisory Committee.

Tickets for members of the World Affairs Council go on sale Jan. 27 for $75 apiece. Non-member tickets will become available on Feb. 3 for $125. For more information, contact Kris Mewherter at 214-965-8413 or kmewherter@dfwworld.org.
