Park Cities Cops Saw Plenty of Action Last Week

If we were publishing a newspaper this week, these crimes would be published in it. But we’re not. And if we were ready to start our weekly emailed police report, these crimes would already be in your inbox. But we’re not. So we’re posting them all here. Merry Christmas.

HIGHLAND PARK

Between 10 p.m. on Dec. 15 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 16, a burglar broke into a white 2013 GMC Yukon in the 4500 block of Byron Avenue and stole a $400 Valentine radar detector, a checkbook, and $10 in cash. The burglar also apparently used a spare set of keys to move the vehicle into the middle of the road, because the owner remembers parking it next to the curb.

At 2:04 p.m. on Friday, a burglar alarm sounded at a house in the 4300 block of Arcady Avenue. Responding officers found a back door that was damaged but not completely forced open. An employee of the homeowner confirmed that nothing appeared to be stolen. Surveillance video from a neighboring house showed that a man in a gold Pontiac Grand Prix pulled into the driveway at 1:58, walked to the back of the house, and left in a hurry at 2:05.

At 1:21 a.m. on Friday, an officer found a silver 2003 Infiniti resting against a tree in the 4600 block of Abbott Avenue. The driver, a 25-year-old Devonshire resident, said she was trying to make a left from Knox Street, but the vehicle “failed to do what she wanted it to do.”

At 1:17 a.m. on Saturday, an officer found a gray 2008 BMW 335i that had been abandoned in the 4700 block of Preston Road. The BMW had apparently jumped a curb and taken out the street/stop signs at the intersection of Preston and Belclaire Avenue. The doors were unlocked, and the driver’s side air bag had deployed. A records search showed that the BMW belonged to a 22-year-old University Park resident, but the University Park Police Department reported that the young man no longer lives at the listed address. The BMW was towed.

At 1:38 a.m. on Saturday, as an officer was waiting for a wrecker to tow a silver 2008 Ford that had been abandoned in the 4100 block of Mockingbird Lane, an Uber driver pulled up and said he had just chauffeured the Ford’s occupants to two separate locations in North Dallas. The Uber driver said the occupants were not sure what was wrong with the Ford; he also added that one of them was heavily intoxicated.

At 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, a patrol officer noticed keys in the ignition of a white 2013 Chevy Tahoe at an apartment building in the 4500 block of Abbott Avenue. The officer entered the Tahoe to try to find information about its owner. In the process, the officer found two fake IDs. They were booked into an evidence locker for safekeeping, as were the keys to the Tahoe, which had been rented from Hertz.

UNIVERSITY PARK

Between 11 p.m. on Dec. 15 and 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, a thief stole $300 worth of Christmas decorations from a front yard in the 4400 block of Normandy Avenue.

At 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 17, a resident of the 3200 block of Centenary Drive reported that a $45,000 diamond ring was stolen from her house between 8 p.m. on Dec. 11 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 12.

Between 6 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, a thief stole a catalytic converter from a silver 1999 Toyota 4Runner in the 4100 block of Stanhope Drive.

At 11:28 a.m. on Wednesday, a burglar tried to break into a house in the 4200 block of Shenandoah Avenue, causing $1,500 worth of damage to a back door.

At 2 a.m. on Thursday, thieves tried to steal the wheels from a black 2012 Chevrolet Suburban in the 3300 block of Hanover Street. But they abandoned their enterprise when the SUV began rolling backward and damaged another vehicle.

Between 6:36 and 7:10 p.m., a thief stole a $25 gift from a porch in the 3600 block of Hanover Street.

Between 9:11 and 9:17 a.m. on Friday, a miscreant made “silent abusive calls” to the city’s 911 operations center in the 3800 block of University Boulevard.

At 10:58 p.m. on Friday, a robber armed with a semi-automatic gun and wearing a ski mask approached a couple in their driveway in the 3800 block of Centenary Drive and stole a $75 purse, a $60 wallet, $60 in cash, $50 worth of cosmetics, five credit cards, and at least one driver’s license. A vehicle could be heard speeding away.

Between 11 a.m. on Saturday and 9:11 a.m. on Sunday, a thief stole three bicycles — a pair of $400 Schwinns and a $350 Trek — from an open garage in the 4100 block of Normandy Avenue.

DALLAS

Between 4 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 16, a burglar entered a silver 2007 Mercedes sedan that had been left unlocked in the 4100 block of Holland Avenue and stole a $700 pair of prescription glasses, a $400 black iPad, a $400 white iPad, $250 worth of women’s workout clothes, and two winter coats with a total value of $225.

Between 7 and 11 p.m. on Dec. 16, a burglar broke into a black 2005 BMW coupe in Inwood Village and stole a $20 backpack.

At 1 p.m. on Dec. 17, officers found a 76-year-old woman laying on the Katy Trail near the 3300 block of Knox Street. She said she had tripped and injured her shoulder. An ambulance took her to Baylor University Medical Center.

At 2:55 a.m. on Wednesday, a woman entered a man’s apartment in the 4400 block of Buena Vista Street and banged on his bedroom door, complaining that she had a flat tire. The woman left before officers arrived.

Between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, a burglar broke into a house in the 5600 block of Bryn Mawr Drive, damaged two small safes, and stole a $12,000 Rolex watch, a $2,500 Tag Heuer watch, a $1,700 Mac Book Pro, an $800 David Yurman cuff, a $600 iPad, a $400 Luminox watch, a $200 Amazon gift card, and various documents.

Between 3:30 and 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, a burglar broke into a white 2007 Lincoln Navigator at NorthPark Center and stole $3,000 in cash, a $300 pink Coach purse, a $100 pink Coach wallet, five credit cards, three checkbooks, and personal papers.

Between 10:45 and 11 a.m. on Thursday, a burglar broke into a white 2006 Dodge sedan in the 7400 block of Colgate Avenue, removed a $65 purse, and dumped its contents, stealing only a driver’s license and five credit cards. As soon as she discovered the burglary, the victim started calling banks to cancel her cards. But one of them had already been used at Victoria’s Secret.

Between 1 p.m. on Wednesday and 11 p.m. on Thursday, a burglar entered a blue 2011 Kia hatchback in the 5400 block of Amherst Circle and stole a chef’s bag that held $400 worth of utensils, a $150 iPod, a $75 MP3 player, a $25 phone charger, and $18 in cash.

Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, a thief stole a silver 2007 Kia SUV valued at $10,000 from NorthPark Center.

Between 10 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday, a miscreant tried to get into a fenced yard in the 7800 block of Purdue Street by kicking a slat from the gate. All he accomplished was causing $100 worth of damage.

Between 3 p.m. on Sunday and 8:45 a.m. on Monday, a thief stole $5,000 worth of 20-inch wheels from a black 2013 Chevrolet Silverado in the 3800 block of Holland Avenue.
