Burgin Named District 10-4A MVP
After a year’s worth of team accolades for reaching the Class 4A Division I state semifinals, several Highland Park football players were honored for their individual accomplishments as well.
Topping the list is junior quarterback Brooks Burgin, who was named the MVP of District 10-4A in all-district balloting by league coaches. Burgin was a unanimous selection after finishing with 3,491 yards passing and 31 touchdowns for the Scots (13-2). He also rushed for 707 yards and 19 scores.
Among the other superlatives, offensive lineman Jack Sides was named one of four sophomores of the year in the district, while Randy Allen was selected as coach of the year.
A handful of HP players were unanimous choices for the all-district first team, including junior receiver Andrew Frost, senior offensive lineman Tony Richards, senior defensive tackle Jack Ceverha, senior defensive end Andrew Clyde, junior linebacker Mitchell Kaufman, and kicker Will Sanders.
Other first-team honorees for the Scots were running back Cole Feigl, offensive linemen Clayton Woods and Gil Horn, and linebacker Tanner Houghton.
HP also had several players recognized on the second team, including receiver Kevin Ken, offensive lineman Rees Lemay, defensive linemen Caz Orr and Charles Powell, linebackers Brooks Oden and Anuar Hage, and defensive backs Pierce Weiss and Boomer Bakich.
Reflecting the depth on their district championship team, the Scots even had seven players who were given honorable mention — Remy Kell, William Stowe, Chris Moize, Campbell Brooks, Stephen Briggs, Robert Mencke, and Powell Snelling.
