Two-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw made a surprise appearance at Hyer Elementary School yesterday morning during the Dads and Donuts breakfast.

Well, it was a surprise to most — some of the kids showed up wearing Los Angeles Dodgers gear in honor of the Highland Park High School graduate.

The Hyer Dads Club, which hosted the event, presented a $1,000 check to the ace pitcher for Kershaw’s Challenge, his organization committed to transforming the lives of children, in America and Africa, through Jesus Christ.

Kershaw’s next scheduled public appearance, that we know of, will be at the inaugural fundraising luncheon for Connecting Point of Park Cities, an organization that aims to offer fulfilling day programs for special-needs adults. He and his wife, Ellen, will speak at the Belo Mansion on Jan. 11, when they will also sign their book, Arise: Live Out Your Faith and Dreams on Whatever Field You Find Yourself.
