Boys Basketball Team Remains Red Hot

I haven’t made it out to a Highland Park boys basketball game yet this season, but it sounds like I’ve been missing quite a show. The Scots picked up road wins over Jesuit and South Oak Cliff last week to improve their record to 6-0.

Last Tuesday, Highland Park posted a 66-52 win over Jesuit, which I’m told was played before a packed gym of raucous, partisan fans. Clayton Murtha paced the team with a 19-point, 10-rebound performance followed closely by 16 points from Derek Cahn, this season’s leading scorer. Evan Buecler had 12 points, and Matthew Crites and Jake Stegenga each scored eight. Also noteworthy: four Scots (Buecler, Cahn, Crites, and Stegenga) each contributed four assists.

On Friday, Buecler had a breakout game, hitting eight of 10 3-point shots en route to a season-high 32 points in Highland Park’s 74-67 win over South Oak Cliff. Cahn contributed another 16-point performance, and Murtha had his second double-double of the week with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Scots will host Richardson this evening. As always, you can watch the game live on the Sportsgram Internet Sports Network.

The Scotties are as exciting as it gets this year. A different brand of basketball than anything we’ve seen under Coach David Piehler. Up tempo. Lots of threes. More fast breaking. Get to the Highlander Fieldhouse or let us bring it to you at sportsgram.net! Thanks for the shout out!
