HPISD Creates Security Director Position

Last night, the Highland Park ISD Board of Trustees approved the creation of a new administrative position: director of safety and security services. But Tuesday’s vote was merely a formality. Superintendent Dawson Orr said the job has already been posted, and the first interviews will happen Friday. Orr also said he discussed creating the new position with Chris Vinson, director of the Highland Park Department of Public Safety, and Greg Spradlin, acting chief of the University Park Police Department. They endorsed the move, Orr said, and suggested candidates for the job.

This means that the school district has judged that the policing departments have failed at keeping the kids safe. While I applaud HPISD for taking matters into their own hands, we taxpayers should be upset since this non-teaching newhire is likely going to cost us at least $500K in tax dollars ($100K to the district for the new security boss and $400K to the State for recapture). HP and UP could hire 3-5 cops each with non-recapture tax dollars for what this will cost us. I might be off in my numbers, but the general idea of using district tax dollars for what the cities should be doing is not a wise decision.

Glad to hear that we are taking the safety of our children seriously!

Meh, just train the teachers to Conceal Carry and allow them to do so on school campus.
