Tell Your Teens to Stay Put at Parties
C.A.R.E. hosted a luncheon this afternoon in University Park. The theme was “Help! My Child Attended a Party … So Did The Police!”
One of the speakers was criminal defense attorney Hank Judin, and he said parents should tell their teenagers to stay put if they’re at a busted party. The worst that will probably happen, he said, is that they’ll be ticketed for a Class C misdemeanor, which is the equivalent of a traffic ticket. But if they run, it’ll be bumped up to a Class A misdemeanor. And if they get in a car, he said, they’ll face felony charges.
“The worst thing they can do is run,” Judin said. “And the worst, worst thing they can ever do is get in a car and try to leave.”
