No big surprise, but the Highland Park tennis team won the Class 4A Region II Tournament over the weekend to punch its ticket to next week’s state tourney.

The Scots (20-0) will take on San Antonio Alamo Heights (18-2) in the semifinals at 1 p.m. next Monday in College Station. That will be a rematch of last year’s finals, which Highland Park captured to win its fifth straight state title.

The other 4A semifinal will be Montgomery (23-2) vs. Lubbock (26-4). The winners will square off in the championship at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The Scots beat North Dallas and Lovejoy, 10-0, in the first two rounds of the regional tournament last Friday. Highland Park then topped Texas High, 10-0, in the finals. The Tigers were undefeated heading into that match.

Highland Park has won 14 state titles.

The semi final against Alamo Heights will not be the typical rout for the Scots. The are matching up with us well in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. This promises to be a war for the title. Everyone should show support for the team – this is not a typical year.
