There was no slow start for Highland Park this time.

The Scots, who trailed at halftime of three of their first four games, put five touchdowns on the board in the first half on their way to a 56-3 whipping of North Forney in District 10-4A action on Friday night at Highlander Stadium.

Quarterback Brooks Burgin had a huge game with 280 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. Remy Kell caught two of those touchdowns for his first two scores of the season. The Scots (4-1, 2-0) also got a special teams touchdown on a 29-yard blocked punt return by Brooks Oden, along with a pair of touchdown passes from back-up quarterback John Robert Gilley.

“It was very exciting,” Oden said. “It was my first touchdown. I wasn’t quite expecting it because Tanner [Houghton] is usually the guy who’s supposed to pick up the blocked punt. But he ended up blocking it, and it came to me. I fumbled it a couple of times but got it in the end zone. It was an awesome experience.”

The Scots defense forced six turnovers (four fumbles, two interceptions).

Highland Park will take on Mesquite Poteet (5-0, 2-0) in a showdown at Highlander Stadium next Friday night.
