Parkies may remember Blaine’s Color from the salon on Westchester Drive. With his move over to McKinney Avenue, he’s ready to launch a full line of services, and was eager to have the media out for a preview. Blaine’s Dallas opened today in under the Uptown Tower apartment building, 3227 McKinney Ave #103.

Sarah Bennett and I stopped by Blaine’s Dallas yesterday afternoon for the works. She had her hair and makeup done; I got a blow out and a spray tan. We walked out of there looking like new women — follow the jump for our review.

Margaux: When I wandered into Blaine’s Dallas, it was a warm and sunny afternoon. When I wandered out, there was a torrential downpour going on — not a good sign for my newly blow-dried do and spray tan. After a very long head massage from Manny (I love you for that, thank you), we scooted over to his station and decided to go for a sleek and straight look. Manny was very knowledgeable about all of their in house products — Blaine’s Color — and told me about them as he used them. I loved Blaine’s Powder, a product similar to dry shampoo where that adds volume to your hair when you add heat.

Sarah: My blowout with James started with a much-needed wash (hey, I’m a reporter, and the news doesn’t always stop for morning shampoos). Back at his station, he carefully dried and twisted small portions of hair into perfectly-coiffed strands. I’m a Texas girl, so that ol’ saying “the higher the hair, the closer to God” is fine with me. James instinctively sensed my love of volume, so that’s exactly what I got. A little pouf on top, a little flip on bottom, and I was a happy girl.

Margaux: While I was having my do done, Blaine came over and chatted with me about some of the services they offer at his salon. Besides hair, they also do spray tans, facials, and makeup consultations and applications. Somehow, I was convinced to face one of my fears: a spray tan. After observing many an orange-hued peer in high school, I’ve always steered clear of the faux glow. But Blaine assured me that their organic formula would look natural, so I gave it a try.

Ari and I hopped into their custom tan room, where she used a machine akin to a vacuum to apply the tan. While it did get a little warm in there, the experience was quick and easy. Next thing I knew, I was walking out of the salon looking like I had spent a few days in Mexico (I wish).

Sarah: After the blowout, ,my complimentary champagne glass and I headed over to the makeup station for the next sampling. There, my makeup artist started in on a smoky-eye look. My normal go-to is a bit of winged-out liner, so this was a dramatic shake-up for me. The Motives Cosmetics line provided a great base for my pinkish skin, and with a bit of blush, neutral lip color, and brow shaping, I was ready to go for the evening.
