John Trail Miller Jr.
Born Dec. 31, 1925, in Wichita Falls. Died July 22, 2013, in Dallas.
John has been reunited in heaven with Pat, his wife of 55 years, and his eldest child, Carolyn. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1944 and served for two years. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1946, he attended Texas A&M University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in 1948. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1949 with a B.A. in economics. He also attended graduate business school at SMU.
He spent a decade in the oil and gas industry as a landman and independent oil man and lived in Midland, Texas, where his four children were born. Thereafter, he spent 40 years in financial services, first as a stock broker, then as an equity research analyst, and finally as an investment banker.
John loved to fish for bass at Coon Creek Club, eat lunch with friends at the round table at the Dallas Petroleum Club, and play tennis. He was a voracious reader of history and biographies. He loved A&M, and especially Aggie football. John was known for his dry sense of humor, quick wit, and as being a sharp dresser. He was a devoted member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church for 51 years. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family.
The beloved son of the late John Trail and Geraldine (Parker) Miller, husband of the late Patricia Bell Miller, and father of the late Carolyn Miller Clark, and brother of the late Marilyn Thrash, he is survived by his three younger children: Tyree Bell Miller (Jan Stephens) of Dallas, Ellen Miller Burnett (J. Russell Burnett) of Greenville, S.C., John Stuart Miller (Susan Range Miller) of Kenilworth, Ill. He was “Pop” to 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
