Scots Tabbed to Repeat as District Champs
Last Friday was one of the best days of the year for Texas football fans. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the bible of high school, college, and pro football in the Lone Star State, hit newsstands.
The annual publication, which started in 1960, previews every team in Texas.
This year, the magazine predicts the Highland Park Scots will win their fifth consecutive District 10-4A championship. That’s not exactly going out on a limb considering the Scots have won district 10 of the last 11 years. During that stretch, the Scots are a combined 71-1 in district play. I can’t even make my brain make sense of that kind of domination.
Also in District 10-4A, the publication has West Mesquite picked second, Poteet third, Creekview fourth, Forney fifth, Newman Smith sixth, North Forney seventh, and Terrell eighth.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football also has the Scots ranked No. 11 in its annual Class 4A Top 25 preseason poll. Defending Division I state champion Denton Guyer is ranked No. 1, while Cedar Park is ranked No. 2. Highland Park’s first opponent of the upcoming season, Aledo, is ranked No. 3. The Scots and Bearcats will tangle in the Tom Landry Classic at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Allen’s Eagle Stadium.
Highland Park, which went 9-2 last season and returns seven starters, is ranked No. 6 in the state in the coaches poll.
