Cops Are on to You, Pellet Gun Pranksters
Somewhere in Highland Park, a couple of boys with a pellet gun are giggling about shooting up a house in the 4300 block of Versailles Avenue over the Memorial Day weekend. Well, their giggling may stop when they read this.
According to a Highland Park Department of Public Safety report, the house was shot between 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Monday. A newly painted window frame was damaged, as were two interior light fixtures.
The report also says two people working for the homeowner about a month ago saw a red dot on a second-story wall. When they looked into the backyard next door, they saw two teenage boys brandishing a laser-guided pellet gun. The workers told police they could positively ID the boys and their vehicles.
The DPS officer investigating this weekend’s prank was not able to make contact with anyone at the next-door house Monday; not surprising, since it was a holiday. But something tells me he’s not going to give up so easily.
Well, I can see having the kids pay for any damage. The kids should know not to shoot property.
I think boys running around the neighborhood shooting airsoft b.b.’s at each other is great fun. As long as they are careful, running around outside getting air and exercise should be encouraged. It’s a right of passage for boys.
Our house was the airsoft neighborhood hangout for about two years. The boys had a blast.
We had a cranky spec builder that called the police once. The police tried to convince me that the boys were in danger, because the cops might mistake the boys for criminals. I think if a cop can’t distinquish a 10 year old boy, head to toe in HPMS or SCOTS attire, wearing eye protection chasing around in the middle of the day with the”gang bangers in Detroit” then those cops shouldn’t be working in our neighborhood.
You mean “rite” of passage, not “right.” But it doesn’t surprise me you don’t read much, because you’re clearly an idiot.
Boys running around getting air and exercise is a wonderful idea. But running around the neighborhood shooting BBs at each other is not fun, and it’s not legal. It’s a recipe for injury and property damage, and anyone who encourages that sort of dangerous activity has no business being a parent, let alone spouting off ignorant, harmful advice to others. Forget the BBs, laser sights alone are dangerous enough. Pointing them into people’s homes? That’s a great way to do instant, permanent retinal damage to a purely innocent person sitting in their own house minding their own business.
Please do everyone a favor and keep your big stupid mouth shut.
tk,
Cranky spec builders? Only eye protection? Police shouldn’t be working your neighborhood? 10 year olds dont drive cars. I dont think its a right of passage to damage other people’s property.
I grew up in highland park and the kids in highland park are worse then the west dallas kids because the parents in highland park are rich and give them every thing they want and take up for them when they get into trouble the highland park kids are spoiled brats.
Cars are dangerous, just are bicycles, running, football, soccer, basketball, rollerblading, skateboarding, and many other activities. I think you blew her comment way out of context just as I have done with your comment about danger.
And clearly, Highland Park kids believe in run-on sentences as well…
I think the Park Cities should make airsoft guns illegal (j/k) and everyone should rent NERF guns from NERFrental.com, which is run by two local teens đ
Airsoft b.b.’s are biodegradable plastic b.b.’s not metal, like decades ago. The boys that shoot at each other wouldn’t do it if it caused permanent damage. Most of these boys wear full head and eye protection.
The boys that played around my house never shot anyone that was not involved with their game. No cars, no houses, no animals. Around two years of fun for the boys and no damage to anyone or anything. Maybe the boys in the police report didn’t have rules and guidelines to follow.
Z- My mouth is not stupid or big, but I do depend too much on spell check.
And clearly XT has too many periods. (pun intended)
My neighbor’s kids and friends shot up our house, fence, cracked the windshield in our vehicle and damaged our newly painted house. The parents and boys came together and paid for the windshield and wrote apology notes which was awesome, but we are out of luck on the house and fence. I really do believe it’s just kids being kids to some degree but I also believe, and have seen first hand, that many kids and parents refuse to accept responsibility for their actions and it’s unfortunate. Also, please don’t correct my grammar or punctuation.
@ Mammy, I agree, much of this is kids being kids, which I get. Unfortunately, it’s also parents being kids too, which I don’t get.
The parents probably let them watch violent video games in addition to letting them shoot up the neighborhood. Bet you they also screamed for gun control after Sandy Hook. If they’d just teach them to only point guns at lions tigers and polar bears like the Dallas Safari Club, everything would be a-ok.
I did research on this issue a year or two ago… they really do not need to be running in the streets, shooting. I too had damage to landscaping, etc… in a controlled course or perhaps a back yard, ok. On the streets, no. thought there was an ordinance???
