Who Wants to Oversee Highland Park Athletics?
Highland Park ISD just announced the creation of a new position, district athletic director. The person who gets the job will oversee athletic programs for boys and girls in grades 7-12, including athletic facilities, budget, event management, and personnel. In addition, the AD will serve as the district’s liaison to community organizations and parent support groups.
Randy Allen, the head football coach, will see his other title go from “boys athletic director” to “boys athletic coordinator.” The district is also looking for a girls athletic coordinator, because former girls athletic director Jerry Sutterfield is assuming a newly created part-time position, coordinator for student integrity and compliance.
“The growth in both student enrollment and participation over the last 10 years has resulted in a substantial increase in responsibility for our athletic administrators,” Superintendent Dawson Orr said in the news release. “I am confident that this reorganization will provide the continued program support to students, parents, and coaches that is needed to maintain HPISD’s tradition of excellence.”
Are you kidding me? We fire language teachers in elementary school, etc etc, and we are constantly being hounded for money from the district. Yet, we can afford another 100k sports related job? Give me a break. Maybe Coach Allen needs to give up a few of his supporting coaches to fund this baby.
I think hiring a few Spanish teachers in k-6 might be a better use of money.
Maybe this person will start a freshman drill team. Why do the dancers have to wait until 10th grade to participate in a school activity? If they are dancing enough to be a Belle odds are they don’t have any extra time for other school activities as freshman.
Jeez. No more belles. Please. The only people who really like the belles are the belles and their parents. Spend money on language teachers like nfw said.
What a joke! Another high salary admin job!
Yup, just what we need, MORE focus on sports and Belles.
