As promised, above is a video of part of Leland Burk’s three minute concession speech. For those of you wanting to read the whole thing, follow the jump.
“I just called Jennifer Gates, and I congratulated her on running and outstanding campaign and I wished her all the success. The district, and the entire city, deserves a great leader from our district, and I told her I believed that they have one, and I told her I was going to encourage every one of my supporters to rally behind her because we have a lot of important business facing the city of Dallas.
I’m asking each and every one of you to spread the word that I’m supporting Jennifer now and I want to thank some people here tonight. Of course, Ann Margolin, thank you so much. And Mitchell Rasansky, thank you. All of my supporters, over a thousand people, rallied behind me in this campaign. You know, I want to thank every member of my family, my children, Holly, my dad, just all of my friends, everybody, and of course Thomas Moore, for all of your support, and help throughout this process.
It’s been an interesting experience and I want you to know that I know more about our community than I would have ever dreamed of knowing. And I am so excited about the future of Dallas and everything that I can see and look forward to. There’s so many of people that I have to thank – Steve Cotton, thank you so much for your friendship and your support. Now I have to tell you, that is one of the great things.
I wouldn’t of [sic] changed a thing. This isn’t the way I would have preferred it gone, but I have made so many new friends – Bob Stoller – I have to tell you the last six months I’ve met so many new people, so many new friends, I see my sister Lisa there, and Laurie is somewhere in here – right there – I love you both and thank you for your constant support. I just want to thank everybody – especially my children, for supporting me, and again, Thomas, I don’t know what to say – thank you from the bottom of my heart. Everybody, that’s all I have to say. Thank you so much.”
