Wall of Rejection Hasn’t Quite Caught on Yet
I spotted this billboard at Highland Park High School last week. I’m guessing the Wall of Rejection is a new concept, because two alumnae I know from the Class of 2008 had never heard of it, and one of them said her brother, who graduated last year, hadn’t either. As to be expected with a new concept, the kids are having trouble understanding it. I assume the idea is for seniors to pin their rejection letters from colleges and universities to the board; for what purpose, I don’t know. Two students did just that, but another kid pinned up his early acceptance letter from Johns Hopkins, and a fourth posted her rejection letter from the Highland Park chapter of the National Honor Society.
I believe the JHU acceptance letter was posted next to the student’s UT Austin rejection letter.
Like the clever yet apparently not studious student who threw up the NHS rejection.
It’s been there since at least 2006.
It wasn’t there last year, unless it’s in a really hidden place. A big problem nowadays is that often you find out your decision online so you don’t have a physical letter. I know a friend of mine really just wanted to have her Harvard rejection letter but they only sent actual letters to people who were accepted.
