Missing a Lexus First-Aid Kit? Give DPD A Call

Did anyone notice our highly-condensed police blotter in last week’s paper? Thoughts? As I mentioned here, we’re testing out a new format, so the crimes I blog are extras that didn’t make it in the paper. Between 1:30 and 9:50 p.m. on March 27, a burglar broke into a white 2003 Hyundai sedan at NorthPark Center and stole a $40 denim backpack containing a $150 text book, a $100 porcelain tea set, two sketchbooks with a combined value of $50, $50 worth of art supplies, and an iPad charger. The victim left a window open wide enough for the burglar to reach in and unlock the car.

After 11:45 p.m. on March 28, a burglar stole a white 1999 Ford van valued at $4,00 from the 5000 block of Greenway Boulevard. The van was later recovered, but three paint sprayers with a combined value of $4,000 and two paint compressors with a combined value of $1,000 were nowhere to be found.

Between 12:45 and 1:20 p.m. on March 29, a thief removed a $600 Burberry wallet containing a $300 Tiffany pen, a $42 Swarovski pen, a driver’s license, checkbook, and various insurance and credit cards from the purse of a woman dining at Maggiano’s in NorthPark Center. The woman reportedly left the purse hanging on the back of her chair while she dined.

At 5:45 a.m. on April 1, police found the first aid kit from a Lexus discarded in the 5400 block of Druid Lane.

At around 4:20 p.m. on April 1, an employee of Macy’s at NorthPark Center watched on camera while a teenager took 17 shirts with a combined value of $755.55, two pairs of pants with a combined value of $119.24, and a backpack into a dressing room. He exited a short time later with a full backpack but no merchandise. Employees detained the sticky-fingered teen in the parking lot and arrested him on a theft charge.
