Inwood Village’s Cantina Laredo Closes Sunday

I just grabbed lunch at Inwood Village’s Cantina Laredo — for the last time. The Mexican food favorite is being forced out of its space this Sunday, according to general manager Irene Rebolloso.

Rebolloso said she is devastated, and was only just able to break news to her staff on Wednesday. Rebolloso made a point to walk around to every table during lunch to thank customers for their loyalty and business. Countless patrons got up out of their chairs to give the bubbly manager a hug.

Brandon Harris, the leasing agent for Inwood Village, declined to comment. Check back for updates.

Not counting Cantina Laredo there are at least 4 other empty spaces in the line of Inwood Village shops on the east side of the theater. Something is going on. Three of these spaces have been vacant for a long time.

Culture Map says that a Trader Joe’s is taking over that space among others in that building per sources in Inwood Village.

Cool story and all, but no blog post about Leslie Toomay? Another local story is scooped again by the big city paper.

Closing affects the school community, as well. Every year, the PTA “lunch bunch” meetings for each grade met at the restaurant on the second floor. Might be hard to find a space as good as that one.

@TH: They get some scoops, and we get some scoops. An example of the latter: Our recent lede story on vandals terrorizing Robert Dowe Coleman.

I get the paper, and missed that story. What week did you run it?

I will miss Cantina Laredo’s food and friendly staff. There are more than a few locations in similar close proximity that can accommodate “lunch bunch”.

    Thank you.

Now, this may make me a bad person, and I realize that we have laws in our society to maintain order and justice, but I’m glad that they are harassing this animal. Keep it up, he deserves no peace.

I hope they save the mural. That’s been there since the space was occupied by El Chico back in the 1970s if not before.
