Park Cities Are Not Interchangable
There’s a difference between University Park and Highland Park. A young man learned that lesson the hard way on Tuesday.
At 4:30 yesterday afternoon, Highland Park hosted a construction commencement ceremony at Town Hall. At that time, I was standing in the lobby of University Park City Hall, because I was 30 minutes early for the City Council meeting. The front door swung open, and a high school- or college-age kid tried to come in. I say “tried” because he was so loaded down with video equipment that he didn’t fit through the door on his first attempt.
Once he made it inside, he asked, “Where’s the ceremony?” Receptionist Ann Bry replied, “Do you mean the City Council meeting? It will start at 5 o’clock, upstairs.” The kid insisted, “No, there’s supposed to be some sort of construction ceremony.”
That’s when I stepped in: “The thing you’re looking for is in Highland Park. But you’re in University Park.”
The kid could not have looked more defeated.
Oops…you would have thought the lack of construction equipment and partly demolished building where a dead give away. Lessons learned I guess.
